A quick overview of the Poker Terms Glossary:
Aggressive: this is a certain style of play. It occurs when players continually raise and re-raise the bet. where the majority of players on a particular table are aggressive, the table itself is known as an aggressive table.
Ante: this is the first obligatory bet all players have to make in order to be dealt the cards, in order to play.
Bluff: when players make out that they have a strong hand by raising the bet, when in fact their hand is rather weak. This is done in hope that the other players will fold. It is not recommended to try to beat another player who you believe is bluffing. The rule of thumb is only call another players bluff if you believe you really hold a winning hand.
Boat: occasionally a full house is known as a boat.
Broadway: this is the term for a straight whose high card is an ace.
Burn: this is a strategy to prevent other players from seeing your cards. In this case, the dealer takes the cards, face down from the top of the deck.
Bust: this occurs when a player runs has no more money.
Call: When a player equals the previous bet it is known as a call.
Cut: after shuffling the deck will be split in half. The bottom of which will be placed on the top of the pile. Generally, the player on the left of the dealer will split the deck as an insurance that the dealer is not cheating.
Deuce: two's are occasionally referred to as deuces.
Fast: this is a player that likes to make bets and raises very often.
Fold: a player folds as a technique to quit the round since he believes his hand will not win.
Flush: a flush includes five cards of the same suit and in consecutive order.
Limit: Limit games have limits imposed on how much players are allowed to bet and raise during a round.
No-limit: alternatively, a no-limit game has no minimum or maximum bets required.
Pot: this is the term for all of money thrown into the center of the table during a game.
